The Barcelona Card Express was the official 2-day city pass for Barcelona — the shorter sibling of the classic Barcelona Card. It gave holders 48 hours of unlimited public transport and discounts at more than 25 attractions. It has since been discontinued.
What was the Barcelona Card Express?
The Barcelona Card Express was the 48-hour version of the Barcelona Card, the official tourist pass issued by Barcelona Turisme. It was introduced as a standalone product for visitors who did not need the full 3-, 4-, or 5-day card but still wanted the core benefits: free public transport and discounted entry to the city’s main attractions.
Unlike the longer Barcelona Card options, the Express did not include free admission to museums — everything was discounted, not complimentary. It has since been withdrawn entirely from sale.
Why was it discontinued?
Barcelona Turisme has not published an official reason. The card has been fully delisted — zero references to “Express” exist anywhere in the current Barcelona Turisme ecosystem, including the main website, the checkout store, category listings, and FAQ content. The most likely explanation is consolidation of the product range: the standard Barcelona Card now starts at a 48-hour (2-day) tier, which covers the same use case at a similar or better price point with the added benefit of free museum entry rather than discounts only.
What to buy instead
Barcelona Card (2-day)
The Barcelona Card now includes a 48-hour option from €35.10 — the direct successor to the Express. Unlike the Express, it gives you free entry to 25+ museums (not just discounts) plus unlimited transport. A meaningfully better product at a comparable price.
Barcelona Card Essential (3-day, no transport)
The Barcelona Card Essential is a good option if you already have a transport pass and just need museum access and attraction discounts. From €29 for 3 days.
Hola Barcelona (2-day transport only)
If you primarily wanted the Express for its transport benefit and don’t need attraction access, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card covers unlimited metro, bus, tram and airport connections from €17.77 for 2 days.
